Community

Shortly after the School launched its Contemporary Issues initiative, one of the topics selected for initial focus was community, which was viewed as the foundation for understanding other problems. To help identify the key issues in this area, the School partnered with two other organizations—the Society for Applied Anthropology and the Center for the Study of Community. The result was a series of exploration seminars on community, a public lecture by Mary Catherine Bateson, and a plenary session at the annual meetings of the Society for Applied Anthropology.
